How to Create Sheet Music Software

Sheet music is the term for music written in music notation on music staff paper. In the past, composers wrote music by hand and the music would then be published as sheet music. Today, music notation software makes it easier to notate and print sheet music from your own computer. Some of these programs even allow you to create a music file to go along with your sheet music, making it possible for you listen to the music you print.

Instructions
1   Choose music notation software to create you sheet music. There are several options, including    Finale, Sibelius and MuseScore. MuseScore is free and available for both PC and Mac users.
  • 2
Open you music notation software and select "New." Enter the title, composer and copyright information for your sheet music. You can start a new file from scratch or using a wizard to make selections such as time and key signature.
  • 3
Compose your sheet music. Select your note choices from the toolbar and move your cursor over your blank sheet music to determine placement of the selected note. Click the line or space on your sheet music to add the note to your sheet music. Note values range from whole notes all the way down to thirty-second notes. The toolbar also has rest values equal to the notes, as well as a variety of other music symbols.
  • 4
Add lyrics to your sheet music. Enter a melody line first by placing the melody notes on the staff, then go to the "Create" menu, choose the "Text" option and select "Lyrics." Type the corresponding words to the melody notes.
  • 5
Preview your sheet music. Click on the "Play" button on the playback sequencer and the software will play your sheet music for you. To edit any part of the song that doesn't sound the way you want it to sound, select a note and delete it, then replace it with another note.
Note: you will also need Notation Software (such as: Finale, Sibelius or MuseScore)
