"We're working quickly to recover from a major issue in one of our database clusters," Tumblr wrote on its Twitter page about 21 hours ago. "We're incredibly sorry for the inconvenience."
Tumblr hasn't provided any information about how the company's database cluster was affected, and has only promised to "be back shortly." In a follow-up tweet released earlier today, Tumblr said that it is working through "a slow and painful recovery." It promised to share information about the outage on the company's blog when the site is back up.
That recovery might finally be complete. The company sent out another tweet after the original version of this story was published, saying that "the recovering database cluster is online and healthy." It said that it would be "incrementally opening up access to blogs while monitoring performance."
However, that hasn't stopped Tumblr users from taking to Twitter to express their displeasure.
Currently, hundreds of Twitter users are commenting on the outage every minute with some wondering if Tumblr "died or something." Many others seem frustrated, saying that the outage, which has been "nearly 24 hours," according to one user, "better be fixed" soon.
Tumblr has not responded to a request for comment on the nature of the outage or how much longer the service will be down.
